Nagarkot Hiking: Starting from capital city of Nepal and Nagarkot hiking is short and easy hiking place from Kathmandu. Nagarkot is situated 32 km north east of Kathmandu valley and one of the famous  mountain villages in Nepal. Nagarkot is renowned for its sunset and sunrise with breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas such as Chobha Bamare, Gaurishanker, Numbur, Dorje Lakpa, Phubi Chyachu, Langtang Loren,Ganesh Himal Range,Manasalu Range and finally Annapurna Range.

Now many people walk for refreshment weekend and family holidays. Nagarkot is ideal place for those who want to see Mountain views and surrounding in a close from Kathmandu Valley. Nagarkot Hiking can be done in any season of the year.

Chagunarayan Hiking: The hiking trail from Nagarkot to Chagunarayan gradually descends through the terraced fields through the ‘Tamang Village.’ The thatched houses, painted are built by with local stone hand – hewn by local craftsmen.

The first part of the hiking is largely a fascinating cultural encounter while the second part is more natural as the trail follows the ridge rich with deciduous forest. The Himalayas appear in the distance totally remote and undisturbed. The walking is easy with gradual downhill and fairly level paths. It will take about 4 hours to reach Changunarayan, the oldest pagoda style Hindu temple in Nepal.

After visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site and having lunch, we take a drive back to Kathmandu to end our fascinating hikes.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Sankhu and walk to Nagarkot. Sankhu is a very old Newar city in Kathmandu where you can see the old wood carving houses,temples and wood old stone spring traps. The name of Sankhu means Conch city. After looking around the old city, hike through terrace paddy fields and pine forest to Kattike Deaurali.

After a drink and rest at Deurali, 45 min hike to final destination Nagarkot. After refreshment at hotel watch great sunset. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2: After watching sunrise and breakfast hike down Telkot. During the walk through local habitat you can see a domesticated animal like goat, water buffalo and local people making Raksi (Nepali moonshine) and rice beer. One hour more walk to Changunarayan (World Heritage Site). This is oldest Hindu God Vishnu Temple. The temple complex builds third century and decorated by some of the best samples of stone wood and metal craft in the Kathmandu Valley.
